These buttons are quite rare around here and there's a bit of controversy over their origin. There's strong evidence that early to mid 1700s British naval uniforms used Tudor Rose buttons for the lieutenant rank. The issue is that there are undoubtedly civilian buttons from that era that feature a Tudor Rose and it's not settled which specific buttons were which. This does appear to be a die-stamped button which would make more sense being an official one, but it's difficult to say without knowi
