What is a heat dome? Learn how this high-pressure weather pattern traps hot air, creates dangerous heat waves and increases the risk of heat-related illnesses across the United States.
A heat wave that set records in the West is now bringing scorching temperatures and high humidity to the Midwest, and is heading East.
Another heat dome is taking over the region over the coming days, pushing our highs into the 90s most days. It’ll feel even hotter than that each afternoon. The hot weather should peak on Wednesday, when highs reach the mid-90s with an afternoon heat index around 100 degrees.
Dangerous heat will continue across Minnesota for the next few days. A NEXT Weather Alert remains in effect through Thursday evening, as does an extreme heat warning. Tuesday through Thursday, expect highs in the 90s and heat index values near 100.
After a seasonable weekend, high temps climb back into the 90s for much of this week. The chance for rain holds off until the weekend.
